WOCAN will participate in the “Enhancing Gender Equality in Global Environmental Financing” workshop organized by the IUCN GEF Unit, which is being held during the IUCN World Conservation Congress on 4 Sept in Hawaii. This workshop will focus on financing for Multilateral Environmental Agreements (including CBD, UNCCD, and UNFCCC), showcasing experiences and best practices on gender mainstreaming by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and other financial and international organizations, and discussing challenges and future opportunities to better incentivize and catalyze progress/results on gender equality and women’s empowerment in projects and policies.
- Sharing and compilation of experiences and lessons learned from integrating gender into multilateral financing mechanisms’ policies and procedures, the role of respective partners organizations, and the impact on national and local level policy and projects and programs;
- Policy makers, practitioners and other stakeholders understand gender-responsive mandates and policies within different mechanisms, national priorities and agendas and the role and strategies of partnering agencies;
- Dissemination of best practices for gender-responsive financing and linking and leveraging community of practices (e.g. the GEF Gender Partnership, IUCN Global Gender Office and Global Environment Facility etc.)
Partners and Audience: A moderated group discussion will share lessons learned and challenges experienced with respect to gender integration in policy and practice at the Global Environment Facility and related Partner agencies and national counterparts. The session will be designed for policy makers, practitioners and development agencies alike, with panelists and participants discussing strategies, experiences, results, outcomes, as well as capacity, institutional, national, local challenges in advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment.
