WOCAN at the COP21

Jeannette Gurung and WOCAN Core Associate, Maria Lee will be attending the 21st Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP21/CMP11) in Paris from 4-11 Dec. Jeannette will be on the panel of various side events highlighting the W+ Standard as a mechanism that can be applied by projects to measure the results related to women’s empowerment. Jeannette and Maria will also be actively engaging with the Women’s Major Group to advocate for gender responsive climate negotiation process and agreement. Description: The objectives of this session is to share perspectives of investors on the benefits of investing in gender equality and women’s empowerment and their approaches to do so, highlight gender policies and mechanisms of the Green Climate Fund and to share a tool to measure outcomes of investments that benefit women (W+ Standard)

Gender Day: From Global Commitments to Local Action: National Approaches to Mitigating Climate Change and Advancing Gender Equality- A High-level COP21 gender side event

- To discuss strategies, results, outcomes and challenges of country-, context- and sector-specific examples;

- To spotlight government action to implement gender-responsive climate change mitigation, motivating others to follow suit.

Launch of the Fairtrade Climate Standard
When: Friday, 04 Dec – 16:00 to 19:30
Where: Paris city center – Location TBC. By invitation only.
Description: The Gold Standard, Fairtrade International, project developers and commercial partners will be showcasing the new Fairtrade Climate Standard and announcing the first commercial commitments to purchase Fairtrade Carbon Credits. There will be a panel discussion followed by a cocktail and networking event. Jeannette will be attending this event.

Global Landscape Forum: Livelihoods' special event during the COP21 in Paris - The Fund for Family Farming

Description: The event, co-organized in conjunction with the Global Landscapes Forum on Dec 5-6, will gather more than 2000 leaders from all over the world following an official introduction to the Forum by Mr. Emmanuel Faber, CEO of Danone, Mrs Ségolène Royal, French Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy, and Mr. Laurent Fabius, French Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chair of COP21.

Projects and Programs: Towards a Collaborative Approach-Integrating Project Level REDD+ intoNational REDD+ Programs

Description: As Peru announces its national reference level and launches its national REDD+ program registry, the Peruvian Ministry of Environment acknowledges the value project level REDD+ activities have brought to the development and effective implementation of national level programs. REDD+ projects around the globe have demonstrated that REDD+ can deliver sustainable economic development goals, emissions reductions, and private sector investment in REDD+ countries. Integrating projects into scaled national level programs presents challenges and opportunities, and we’ll discuss the benefits of committing to a collaborative approach.
