WOCAN Liaison officer in Washington DC, Lamia El-Fattal Masadiah, was recently elected as a member of the Global Gender and Climate Alliance (GGCA) Steering Committee, representing WOCAN for a period of two years. She attended her first GGCA Steering Committee meeting in New York City, on July 16, 2012.

The GGCA (www.gender-climate.org) works to ensure that climate change policy, decision making and initiatives are gender sensitive and are improving the lives and livelihoods of women and men. The Alliance is composed of UN agencies, civil society and inter-governmental organizations. The GGCA Steering Committee provides strategic direction to the Alliance and takes decisions about GGCA membership, identifies funding needs, mobilizes resources, oversees the work of the GGCA Secretariat, sets criteria for membership and responds to member requests and comments.

Currently, the Steering Committee is composed of 7 seats composed of 2 UN agencies and 5 CSO or inter-governmental organizations. WOCAN is proud to be actively engaged in this distinguished global network whose membership includes over 50 UN and civil society organizations and is recognized as a unique and effective partnership that brings a human face to climate change decision-making and initiatives.
