The Gender in Irrigation Learning and Improvement Tool (GILIT) developed by International Water Management Institute (IWMI) looks at the aspects of gender equity that can be influenced by the policies and operations of formal irrigation schemes. The intention is that the tool can help to facilitate learning and improve gender equitability by supporting the scheme to consider gender equitable standards in relation to men’s and women’s involvement, needs and benefits. In addition, the GILIT tool seeks to clarify specific actions that scheme management can take to address inequities that are highlighted through an application of the tool.
