The FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (RAP) commissioned Women Organizing for Change in Agriculture and Natural Resource Management (WOCAN) to organize and conduct a three-day (s) workshop on integrating gender into climate risk assessment and adaptation planning of the NAP-Ag program at the local level from 8-10 Oct in Kathmandu, Nepal.
A total of 28 participants (11 women and 17 men) representing various Ministries, FAO, UNDP and consulting service providers such as PWC and AdaptNepal attended the workshop.
The broad purpose of the workshop was to integrate gender analysis methods and tools in risk and vulnerability assessment, and adaptation planning in the agriculture sector. This will help to contribute to a broader process of integrating gender into government adaptation intervention.
The specific objectives were as follows:
- To enhance the skills of the technical working group as well as those of contractors who will be engaged in the field level assessment to integrate gender into climate risk assessment and adaptation planning at the local level.
- The skills included;
- The use of capacity and vulnerability assessment framework, combined with relevant gender analysis methods and tools for conducting a situation analysis
- How to integrate gender findings into goal setting, developing activities and inputs, and identification of outcome indicators for Monitoring and Evaluation.
