Embassy of Sweden’s Regional Workshop on Urgency in Action

The section for development cooperation at the Embassy of Sweden in Bangkok annually hosts a thematic workshop for the regional cooperation partners and the focus this year was Urgency in Action- Understanding Human Behavior and Ensuring Human Rights and Gender Equality in the Response to Climate Change. Nisha Onta, Knowledge Management Coordinator, attended the workshop from 10-11 May in Bangkok. The workshop began with the highlights of the human, gender, environmental and economic consequences of climate change and followed by discussion to explore the linkages between climate change, human rights and gender equality in international law, as well as how the 2030 Agenda, its Sustainable Development Goals, and the Paris Agreement.

The workshop also included session on understanding human behavior and how to create incentives to change. Various initiatives focused on climate change-affected grassroots communities shared their stories of resistance, resilience and activism. There were session focused on accountability, climate finance and cases of influencing behavior through law and communications.

The workshop was attended by more than 150 participants coming from civil society, UN organizations, ASEAN, Private sector, Academic and Research institutions, Donors and Governments.
