Meena Bilgi, WOCAN Core Associate, discussed ‘Gender and SDGs’ at the National Consultation on ‘Taking the Sustainable Development and Climate Agenda Post 2015’ held on 21 Feb in Pune, India. The objective of the consultation was to discuss what lies ahead for the climate and development agenda in 2016 and beyond. The Consultation explored how best to engage with the national and regional agenda and to ensure that equity, justice and an end to poverty and hunger remain at the heart of those debates.
The CSOs have the enviable task of bringing synergy among the various movements and fringe energies into mainstream development dialogue, which can be achieved best collectively. About 40 participants from different states discussed what they have done and can do further to strengthen sustainable development, gender concerns and climate agenda at the national, regional and global level with much emphasis on ‘nationalization of these agendas.’ They also discussed about upcoming global and regional fora like the Asia Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development and 60th meeting of the UN Commission on Status of Women. Mr. Prakash Javdekar, Minister of MOEF & CC, also addressed the Consultations.
