MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN WOMEN’S LIVES IN NEPAL
What would you do with an extra 2.2 hours a day?
When women in villagesof Nepal replaced their wood-generated stoves with biogas digesters, they reduced their daily workload by 2.2 hours. This iswhat theW+ Standard, created byWOCAN* (a global women-led membership organization dedicated to women’s empowerment and leadership), measured for 7200 women.
This simple change transformed women’s lives, by freeing them up from laborious and menial tasks of collecting fuel wood from the forests and tending the fire under their traditional stoves. Women had new-found time to devote to more productive enterprises, including vegetable and dairy farming, learn new skills for entrepreneurship, and take up leadership roles in their community. WOCAN has joined#GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide.
Occurring this year on December 1, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday to kick-off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate to improve their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.
Last year, more than 30,000 organizations in 68 countries came together to celebrate #GivingTuesday. Since its founding in 2012, #GivingTuesday has inspired giving around the world, resulting in greater donations, volunteer hours, and activities that bring about real change in communities. We invite you to join the movement and donate this December 1.
Be part of the solution and support women’s groups to start their own business
You can donate by purchasing the W+ units, generated through the application of W+ Standard in the project in Nepal. Valued at $2.50 per unit, a W+ unit provides a significant direct payment to the women’s groups and gives you an opportunity to make a quantifiable impact in the lives of women in Nepal.
