On Oct, Institute of Environment and Water Management (IEWM) with the support from WOCAN organized the two Women Leadership Circle in Agriculture & NRM (WLCAN) meetings in Kitale and Kitui County, Kenya. The objective of the meeting was to strengthen the leadership role of women farmers in Agriculture and Natural Resource Management in the face of a changing climate. The two day meeting included training for women farmers on women’s empowerment, impacts of climate change, business development services, farmer’s organization registration procedures, financial mechanisms for farmer’s organization and the agriculture value chain. The farmers also developed action plans for their groups.
In Kitale, after the 2 days training and women understanding the value chain and how they can increase their participation, they approached the manager of the hotel that was hosting the workshop (Sky Nest) and he gave them a list of the farm produce he could be buying for them if they form group and promise quality.
