On Sept, Institute of Environment and Water Management (IEWM) with the support from WOCAN, organized the two Women Leadership Circle in Agriculture & NRM (WLCAN) meetings in Kenya. One was in Nyandarua County on 2 -3 Sept, with 24 participants (20 women and 4 men) from Tulaga, Kinja and Gathara Wards and the other in Nakuru County on 12 -13 of Sept, with 21 participants (19 women and 2 men) from Molo, Naivasha, Kuresoi North and Kuresoi South Wards.
The objective of the meeting was to strengthen the leadership role of women farmers in Agriculture and Natural Resource Management in the face of a changing climate. The two day meeting included training for women farmers and dialogue between farmers, experts and county leaders. The topics discussed in the training were women’s empowerment, impacts of climate change, business development services, farmer’s organization registration procedures, financial mechanisms for farmer’s organization and the agriculture value chain. The farmers also developed action plans for their groups.
The dialogue among farmers, experts and county leaders provided a great opportunity for farmers to voice their concerns and received information such as where to get quality seeds and the significant of meteorological services in agriculture.
