WOCAN is developing an alternative investment model – with partners that include the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation- that assures benefits of climate projects go to women’s organizations and enterprises to meet their needs for sufficient and sustained financial and technical support for climate adaptation. The model employs the W+ Standard as a results-based financing and market-based approach through the generation of gender credits (W+ Credits) that can be combined with carbon credits.
The use of the W+ Standard thus enables the movement of capital for women’s empowerment, by tapping mitigation finance to provide for climate adaptation purposes, through its requirement of revenue sharing with local women’s groups.
Kaylene, Tanushree and Jeannette will be at the conference through Friday morning and will be available to engage in any panels or discussions. For more info please contact nishaonta@wocan.org
