Developed by gender and M&E experts, W+ credits are generated using a framework, the W+ Standard, that provides metrics for projects and companies to quantify, verify and generate income for women’s empowerment within projects.
W+ credits unlock much needed funding for improving women’s lives in these communities and are a useful tool for companies to legitimize the ’S’ in their ESG efforts.

Transforming Lives: Women's Empowerment in the wCOREL Project

The wCOREL project promotes community-driven resilience by empowering women at all levels. Implemented by Swayan Shikshan Prayog (SSP) in Maharashtra, India, SSP’s focus on climate-resilient farming and women’s decision-making aims to improve livelihoods and well-being for women and families, emphasizing sustainable development and gender equality.

The wCOREL project improved the lives of over 75,000 women by:

  • Increase in income: Women experienced a 101.2% increase in income (IRS 5,798 per individual).
  • Building leadership capacity: 1,500 women saw a 127% improvement in leadership capabilities.
  • Other areas of empowerment: Women gained the following, creating lasting impact for themselves and future generations: agribusiness skills, access to market linkages, became decision-makers, and enhancing their livelihoods and well-being.
 

W+ Credits were generated from these empowering outcomes.

Today, these credits are available for purchase:

  • Income credits: ~759,000
  • Leadership credits: ~19,000

    Biogas Stove Project, Nepal

    The Biogas Stoves Project implemented by the Alternative Energy Promotion Centre (AEPC) provides rural communities with biogas cookstoves.

    The project improved the lives of over 7200 Nepalese women in Kavre and Sindhuli districts by:

    • Time savings : Women experienced a 31.1% increase in time saving by replacing their wood-generated stoves with biogas stoves, relieving them of the need to collect fuel wood from the forest.
     

    W+ Credits were generated from these empowering outcomes.
