Jeannette and WOCAN Board member Kaylene Alvarez held a meeting in Washington DC on June 9, Catalyzing Finance for Gender and Climate, in relation to our work with the BMGF to map women’s organizations/enterprises and funders engaged in climate adaptation. Participants included staff of the USAID Climate Gender Equity Fund, IFC, MEDA, USAID Climate Finance for Development Accelerator, USAID Office of Private Capital and Micro enterprise, World Resources Institute, the Africa Trust Group and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Discussions were held on current initiatives of the participating organizations, and gaps in how to support sustained activities of women’s organizations/enterprises while satisfying the needs that investors have, including some sort of financial return.
