Two Innovations to Measure and Scale Up Impacts of Climate Actions through Women’s Empowerment
WOCAN co-hosted a meeting with The Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors (RPA) and Climate Policy Initiative / Global Innovation Lab for Climate Finance on 12 September. Over 20 investors attended to learn about how to measure impact of climate actions that benefit women through the W+™ Standard , and to invest in projects that impact both climate and women’s lives through the Women and Climate Impact Fund (WCI Fund)- a vehicle for investors to obtain blended social and financial value through initiatives to address Sustainable Development Goals for gender equality (#5) and climate action (#13) simultaneously.
From Shifting the Trillions to Funding Local Climate Actions: How to address the global-local disconnect in climate finance discourses and approaches
Jeannette Gurung was a panelist along with representatives from UNEP Finance Initiative, Green Climate Fund, Calvert Impact Capital, and Global Greengrants Fund. Asked how her work empowers local women, she discussed how the W+ Standard/certification incentivizes project developers to undertake activities that benefit women and delivers payments to women’s groups while addressing their needs for time-saving related to energy and water access.
