IEWM Organized the WLCAN Meeting in Nyandarua County in Kenya

Institute of Environment and Water Management (IEWM) with the support from WOCAN organized the two Women Leadership Circle in Agriculture & NRM (WLCAN) at Nyandarua Country in Kenya on 4-6 June. The forum aimed at providing training and awareness of different areas which women had requested during the previous meeting and increase their knowledge on ways of engaging the governments effectively. The meeting included providing information on biogas, silage production, and high value crop production, facilitated peer to peer learning among women farmers through sharing of successes, explored modalities of women farmers’ engagement with the County government and explored the existing markets for the farm products. Each group developed an action plan to incorporate the knowledge they gained in the meeting.

There were 25 participants (20 women & five men) from Gathara Mwihoko Women Group, Mukiri Tene Self Help Group, Midhill Self Help Group and Kinyahwe Self Help Group. The meeting was facilitated by Elijah Kimani, Deputy Director, Kennedy Bwire and Marlin Achoki of IEWM and David Maina from the Sustainable Agriculture Community Development Programmes (SACDEP) also attended the meetings.
