Jeannette Gurung was on the panel titled ‘Engendering a Culture of Care’ at the Tropical Landscape Summit 2015 organized by the Government of Indonesia on 28 April, 2015 in Jakarta, Indonesia. Jeannette presented the W+ Standard as an innovative model to incentivize businesses to invest in women’s empowerment. The other panelists representing the Government of Indonesia, multilateral development agencies, the private sector and NGOs shared various approaches on how an awareness and ethic of responsibility can be inculcated within business models. The objective of the Government of Indonesia is convening this summit was to confirm and explore the role that green investment could play in delivering a sustainable future for Indonesia.
The expected outcomes of the summit were:
- To provide a platform for the Government of Indonesia to describe and promote its strategic vision for green investment.
- To present an opportunity for key actors within the Government of Indonesia to discuss sectoral and overall approaches to realizing this vision with partners and stakeholders.
- To share experiences, initiatives and ideas among an unprecedented number and scope of actors across a wide variety of sectors, relating to methods for realizing the investment opportunities presented by Indonesia’s tropical landscapes.
- To explore opportunities for creating public-private-people partnerships in order to deliver upon the potential offered by green investment in Indonesia’s tropical landscapes.
- To clarify the linkages between green investment and broader national and international development goals, including Indonesia’s national development plans and the Sustainable Development Goals.
