Linda Mossop Appointed as WOCAN South Africa/ Africa Coordinator

Linda Mossop has been appointed as the WOCAN South Africa/Africa Coordinator. Linda specializes in rural development, land tenure and forest issues. She was appointed Director of State Land Management in the Department of Land Affairs, then worked in the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry where she establishing the first Directorate of Forestry Regulation. She was then appointed as Head of Forestry in the South African Government, being the the second women in South African history to assume this position .

Linda was requested by the G77 and China (a voting bloc of 134 developing countries) to represent the group at the United Nations Forum on Forests. She left government in 2006 to join the state commercial forestry company, SAFCOL, as an executive. She is a founding member of the African Forest Forum, and has served on the Forum’s Governing Council since its inception. As chairperson of the Forum’s Technical Support Team, she has since 2006 led a team of forestry professionals who assist African delegates in international fora such as the UNFF, UNFCCC, and CBD, providing training and legal/technical advice to African negotiators.
