Jeannette spoke on the panel for Funding Women’s Rights and Feminist Movements at the Gender Equality Forum held from April 15-17 in Stockholm. She presented her recommendations to: 1) recognize and fund women’s groups /collectives and organizations; 2) fund the intermediaries that can assure capacity development for women’s groups, and 3) build capacities of women’s groups to act as social enterprises (to capture financing opportunities from gender lens and other private sector funders).
In a separate event, ‘Shifting social norms for gender equality and poverty reduction in the context of Agriculture and Women’s economic empowerment’, Jeannette shared WOCAN’s experiences with strengthening women’s leadership, engaging and changing men as ways to influence gender norms. She recommended: 1. Invest in technologies and approaches that free up women’s time and energy (and provide dignity); 2. Give value to women’s unpaid and unrecognized work; 3. Measure results of women’s empowerment and changed norms and 4. Invest in women’s groups and organizations.
