Maria Lee, Assistant Director and Regional Coordinator for Europe, visited the Khalladi Acwa Power project in the region of Tanger-Tetouan in Morocco, on 20-21 Dec. The mission included three consultations with local communities, a visit of the wind project site and exchanges with the project team.
As part of its corporate social responsibility strategy, the Khalladi Acwa Power company will be supporting communities situated around its wind power project site. A first field study commissioned by the company recommended the following activities: trainingto improve local crop and livestock production, as well as fruit in certain areas, the construction of milk collection centers and the establishment of cooperatives. Women have been identified as a major beneficiary group as they play an important role in agriculture and livestock production in this region.
The objective of the mission was to assess the possibility to apply the W+ Standard to these activities to be implemented in the communes of Melloussa, Ksar Sguir, and Fahs. Based on the activities recommended and information collected, two domains of the W+ Standard seem appropriate for measuring benefits for women in the CSR project: Income/Assets, and Leadership.
