The workshop is the result of the Conference of Parties (COP) decision 18/CP.20 to the UNFCCC secretariat to organize an in-session workshop on gender-responsive climate policy during 42nd session of the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI). The two day workshop had four sessions:

Session I: Setting the scene – Terms and concepts in the context of gender responsive policy

Session II: The importance and benefits of mainstreaming gender in mitigation action and technology development and transfer

Session III: Gender in UNFCCC processes and mechanisms in relation to mitigation action and technology development and transfer – challenges and opportunities

Session IV: Enhancing gender-responsiveness in mitigation action and technology development and transfer- challenges and opportunities

The session was able to increase understanding of the meanings of key gender related terms and concepts in the context of climate change policy, particularly related to climate change mitigation action and technology transfer and development. Some of the presentations also showcased best practices, tools/methodologies and lessons learned in developing and implementing gender-responsive climate policies and actions concerning mitigation and technology development and transfer.
