Jeannette attended the thirteenth meeting of the Board of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) in Songdo, Korea, as an Observer. The Board approved 9 projects from its existing accredited entities, for a total amount of USD 256.6 million. These include both adaptation and mitigation proposals in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Of particular interest to WOCAN was the fact that Board members paid attention to the degree to which each proposal addressed gender concerns; some Board members remarked on what they considered weak attention in a few cases. This is good news, that points to the seriousness with which the GCF is following its internal policies that require all entities to demonstrate gender policies, capabilities and track records for gender integration in their climate initiatives. The Board is now calling for “more ambitious, paradigm-shifting proposals increasing high quality and ambition’, so we are hoping this includes projects that bring significant benefits to women.
