On 26-27 March, USAID LEAF Program, WOCAN & UNREDD organized the Asia Pacific Workshop on Women’s Inclusion for Sustainable Forests and Climate: What works? in Bangkok, Thailand. This workshop is part of the Joint Initiative between WOCAN, LEAF and UN-REDD established to identify practical entry points for women’s inclusion and gender perspectives in REDD+ in the Asia-Pacific Region. The overall goal of the Initiative is to enhance the overall effectiveness of REDD+ through greater inclusion of women and gender perspectives in all relevant policies and practices.
A series of interventions has been taken to map out and generate evidence and dialogues under the Joint Initiative that will be shared to achieve regional impacts.
Building on these activities, this workshop showcased several other innovative programs, projects, and best practices from forestry and other land-use sectors that will inform key lessons for integration of gender perspectives and women’s inclusion in forestry sector and their replication in the Asia-Pacific region. Further, the workshop also identified key regional capacity gaps to be addressed to better integrate gender perspectives and women’s inclusion in forestry sectors, within the emerging framework of climate change and REDD+.
