Jeannette Gurung was one of the panelist on the session titled “How can women grab opportunities in agriculture?” during the Australia Mekong NGO Engagement Platform (AMNEP) Forum on Inclusive Business- Mekong Women in Agricultural Value Chains. The Forum was jointly organized by the Australian Embassy and CSR Asia on 2-3 June in Bangkok, Thailand.
The session focused on how to use women’s economic empowerment strategies in agriculture to promote gender transformation and not just reinforce gender stereotypes that limit or damage women. Jeannette presented the W+ Standard as a practical mechanism to measure women’s empowerment and other panelists also shared various experiences of women to develop and leverage new opportunities in the agricultural sector. The participants alsodiscussed possibilities of inclusive business opportunities, possibilities for new innovative partnerships along value chains and models of engagement that empower women.
