Nisha Onta, Knowledge Management Coordinator, attended the consultation meeting on ‘Building a Platform for the Promotion of Women’s Rights and Women Participation in Governance in Thailand’ organized by the Foundation for Women in collaboration with USAID Sapan Program on 18 July in Bangkok.
The objectives of the meeting were to share the findings of the assessment conducted by USAID Saphan Program on women’ participation in local governance in Thailand, share the feedback from youth and women groups and to brainstorm the most relevant and effective ways to institutionalize and sustain support for women’s participation in local governance in Thailand, with particular emphasis on the possible creation of a new entity. The participants were representatives of International organizations and donors active in women’s empowerment in Thailand. There was a lively discussion on how to sustain the new entity and what modality can be used.
WOCAN shared the outcomes of WLCAN as an example to engage with local women’s groups and also provided information on our courses on reframing leadership and gender integrated planning which can be used to build capacity of women leaders. UNWomen informed the group that they plan to organize a consultation meeting on the zero draft of the constitution of Thailand with women’s groups in Thailand and OXFAM GB Thailand program shared information of their current program on women’s political participation in the South of Thailand.
