WOCAN in collaboration with RECOFTC-The Center for People and Forests and The Forest Dialogue held a 3-day Regional Dialogue on Women’s Inclusion in Landscape Management in Asia, in Chiang Mai, Thailand from October 7-9, 2014. The dialogue brought together 40 participants (33 women and seven men) from ten countries (eight from Asia), representing indigenous peoples, local communities, producer organizations, development assistance agencies, forestry departments of national governments, certification bodies, researchers and NGOs.
The participants discussed various challenges for designing and implementing landscape initiatives that include and benefit women. They also identified concrete actions on six areas- capacity building, communication, policy, research, standards and platform/partnership- to be implemented within their organizations or in partnership. As a follow-up to this Regional Dialogue, WOCAN will contact participants in three months for updates on the proposed actions. The event was supported by the Stockholm Environment Institute, through the Regional Asia Environment Conference Support Programme funded by Government of Sweden.
