The International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), and the Global Gender and Climate Alliance (GGCA) with the support of Women Organizing for Change in Agriculture and NRM (WOCAN) held a workshop from May 21-22, 2009, in Washington, D.C. on Engendering REDD (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation). The purpose of the workshop was to produce criteria and standards for international and national/subnational processes related to REDD, and to define GGCA activities in this area. IUCN and the GGCA will apply the outcomes of the workshop in their collaborations on REDD with governments and institutions at the global and national level, in their partnership with REDD pilot countries, and in trainings for delegates and civil society
