The Women and Gender Constituency published the ‘Gender-Just Solutions’ publication, highlighting over 30 technical, non-technical and transformative solutions for climate action. The Gender Just Climate Solutions shown in this publication are aimed at making gender responsive and equitable solutions visible and central to just climate action.

Gender Just Climate Solutions Award is an initiative of the UNFCCC to make gender responsive and equitable solutions visible at the COP21 in Paris and central to just climate action! The award is meant to recognize commendable work on women and gender initiatives for climate solutions.

The best three initiatives, each under the three categories of technical climate solutions, non-technical climate solutions and transformation climate initiatives have been awarded a prize of USD one thousand each.

The three awardees are:

  2. Non-technical solutions: GenderCC-Southern Africa/ Mopani District, Limpopo and Western Cape in Makhaza Community, Southern Africa. The project ‘Raising awareness on gender integration on climate change adaptation and building community resilience’ used a ‘learn and build methodology’ of awareness training on gender integration on climate change adaptation, water management, access to sustainable energy, waste management and sustainable farming methods in selected communities.
  3. Transformation climate initiatives: Tulele Peisa, Papua New Guinea. The project ‘Community-led relocation effort by the Carteret Islanders who face extinction from climate change impacts and extreme weather events’ aims to prepare and work with three host communities on Bougainville to ensure that there is adequate land, infrastructure and economic opportunities to include Carteret people.
